The number of EV’s (Electric Vehicles) on our road is increasing, as well as the fear mongering by people who’ve never driven one.
For those that see through the brainwashing and are making the electric switch, let’s take a look at the top 10 reasons to buy an EV.
10. Saving the Environment
Ditch the gas guzzler and drive around guilt-free in an EV to save the environment. There are zero tailpipe emissions helping to reduce greenhouse gas emission.
In turn you’ll reduce your carbon footprint which is much less disruptive than stopping highway traffic or chaining yourself to someone in the name of saving the environment.
9. Fossil Fuel Independency
Fossil fuels are so last century, and we’ll probably run out of the stuff by the 2050s. Buying an EV and running your car off electricity will help independence away from fossil fuels.
Bonus points for those that move away from fossil fuels to charge your car by utilising renewable resources like solar, wind and hydro power.
8. Save on Fuel
One of the best reasons to buy an EV and probably your favorite will be the savings you can make on running off electricity instead of gas or petrol.
Imagine if you had your own solar panels and battery storage at home, which would mean you could charge your car independently off the grid and for free.
7. Lower Operating Costs
Tesla’s don’t require annual maintenance or regular fluid changes. Gas powered cars need to be serviced as regularly as ever 6,000 miles or every 6 months.
With far fewer moving parts and more streamlined mechanical systems, EVs should save you cash in the long run without oil changes, brake pad changes to say the least.
6. Energy Efficiency
Buying an EV means a more energy efficient car than gas powered cars all thanks to the technology available in electric cars.
Gas powered cars convert anywhere between 20-30% of fuel into energy to propel a car forward. EVs on the overhand are far more efficient with an energy conversion rate of 80%.
5. Less Noise Pollution
When you buy an EV you’ll be changing from a roar to a whisper. So quiet are EVs they’re often required to make artificial sounds at low speeds to meet regulations to avoid accidents especially with people.
Many urban areas are designed to work around busy roads and a shift towards quieter vehicles with EVs may see a change in the way we design urban areas.
4. Government Incentives
Nothing is certain except death and taxes, but there is one way to lessen the burden. Buying an EV may open up a new world of incentives from the government for going electric.
Depending where you live you may be eligible for anything from tax credits, reduced registration fees, priority lanes and even free access to certain zones such as London EV drivers exemption from the Congestion Charge Zone in Central London.
3. Home Charging
Having your own personal charging station at home is game changing and one of the best reasons to buy an EV. Yes, range anxiety is real but with some proper planning in place it doesn’t have to be stressful.
Although readily accessible, a standard powerpoint can take days to charge your car. A dedicated charging station can provide a full charge overnight and a higher output charger in a matter of hours.
2. Regenerative Braking
One-pedal driving technology works like magic, able to turn braking into extra mileage. Everytime you slow down regenerative braking captures and stores the energy used to bring the car to a stop.
This power can then be used to drive and it also helps lower operating costs by reducing wear and tear on your standard braking system. An aggressive regenerative braking setup will enable for a full drive without even touching the standard brakes,
1. Acceleration
The best reason to buy an EV is the acceleration levels that legitimately feel like a roller coaster ride. Instantaneous power means maximum torque almost immediately which will pull you back in your seat.
Again, it’s the efficiency of EVs that allow for quicker acceleration versus a gas powered car as electric cars don’t have the many layers of resistance in getting power to the wheels.
